An Interview with David Ozanich

I recently had the opportunity to ask David Ozanich, one of the three writers who wrote the Likely Story trilogy (under the name David Van Etten) a few questions.

1. What was it like co-writing a book with 2 other people?
Writing with two other people actually took a lot of the pressure off. Firstly, if things sucked, it wasn't entirely my fault. But more importantly, Chris and I got our sea legs by watching the masterful talent that is David Levithan. He was a great collaborator and a wise editor, too. It was great to have that in a co-author. While Chris and I were both experienced writers, we had not yet had the chance to write novels. David provided a great sounding board as we learned to work in this form. And also, they are really fun guys and we like hanging out together, so that made it appealing.

2. Are you going to be writing anymore books?
Yes, I am working on a new YA novel right now. Stay tuned!

3. Do you watch a soap opera? If so.. which one?
Yes, I do watch a soap opera. When I was a professional blogger my "beat" was "One Life to Live." And even though I don't still work for ABC, I still watch this show. Mostly because Chris still writes for it but even more importantly I am HOOKED! "One Life" is one of the best shows on television. Via la Dorian and Viki! And Blair!

4. Is it confusing writing with someone who is also named David?
The only difficult thing about working with a fellow with my same name is that we have to constantly argue over which one is the "handsome David" versus "evil David." All too often, I get called Evil David.
